Do You Feel Confident Managing Your 401(k)?

If not, your plan may allow for a professional advisor to manage it.

Your 401(k) may be one of your largest assets—but is it actually being managed as part of your overall financial plan?
Many employer-sponsored retirement plans offer a self-directed brokerage option, often called:
• PCRA through Charles Schwab
• BrokerageLink through Fidelity
If your plan allows it, these accounts may give you access to a broader investment universe than the standard menu of target-date funds and mutual funds. Some plans may also permit you to appoint an independent financial advisor to professionally manage the account.
That can help coordinate your 401(k) with:
• Your other investment accounts
• Your risk tolerance and time horizon
• Company stock exposure
• Retirement-income planning
• Your broader financial goals
The money stays inside the 401(k). You are simply using a different investment window within the plan.
Not every employer offers this feature, and the investment choices, fees and ability to use an advisor vary by plan. Check your benefits portal or ask HR whether your plan offers a “self-directed brokerage account,” “PCRA” or “BrokerageLink.”
You may have more options inside your 401(k) than you realize.
